This course builds on the skills and knowledge or Mandarin Chinese gained in Chinese 1 or in previous study. It is based around themes relevant for travel and work in China.
Target Audience: Chinese 2 is suitable for those who have either completed Chinese 1 or its equivalent. It is themed around topics relevant for travel and work in China but is also relevant for anyone wishing to acquire language skills for other personal or business reasons, or for personal study.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this course students will have learned about topics such as: * Shopping * Buying food in restaurants * Taking a taxi and buying train tickets * At the hotel * Making telephone calls * Socializing * Writing a letter to a Chinese friend
Course Format: This course comprises 24 hours of classroom interactive group learning made up of 2-hour sessions over 12 weeks. To reinforce your learning homework is encouraged. There is no formal assessment.
Required Materials: Required text: Colloquial Chinese (Quian, K: Routledge 2009). This course also covers Chapters 8 to 15. Supplementary materials will be provided. This text must be purchased separately and is not included in the course fee.
