This course provides an introduction to French for absolute beginners and those with very little knowledge of the language. It gives a good grounding in basic grammar and speaking, vocabulary and pronunciation; and is particularly useful if you are travelling to a French-speaking country.
Target Audience: French 1 is suitable for beginners who wish to gain an introduction to French, whether travelling to an French-speaking country to live and/or work, for personal or business reasons, or for personal study.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this course students will have learned:
* How to meet and greet people * The basics of grammar - for clear, accurate communication * A useful vocabulary - the most vital words in everyday life * Good pronunciation - to make sure what you are saying can be understood
Course Format: This course comprises 24 hours of classroom interactive group learning made up of 2-hour sessions over 12 weeks. To reinforce your learning homework is encouraged. There is no formal assessment.
Required materials: Required text: Connexions: Methode de francais (Merieux and Loiseau: Didier, 2004). This course covers chapters 1 to 3. This text must be purchased separately and is not included in the course fee.
