This course builds on the skills and knowledge gained in Japanese 1 or in previous study.
Target Audience: Japanese 2 is suitable for those who have either completed Japanese 1 or its equivalent and feel confident with their knowledge of basic Japanese. It is relevant to those travelling to Japan to live and/or work or wishing to learn Japanese for personal or business reasons, or for personal study.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this course students will have learned to: * Reinforce the usage of hiragana and katakana (Japanese syllabic letters) * Master the basics for travel in Japan and for answering stock questions to non-Japanese * Become confident in ordering food, discussing likes and dislikes, etc. * Learn how to make requests, deal with invitations and visiting people's homes.
Course Format: This course comprises 24 hours of classroom interactive group learning made up of 2-hour sessions over 12 weeks. To reinforce your learning homework is encouraged. There is no formal assessment.
Required Materials: Required text: Japanese Language and People (Richard Smith et al., BBC, 1991). This course covers chapters 6 to 10.
