This course builds on the skills and knowledge gained in Russian 1 or in previous study to further develop your ability to communicate in everyday situations.
Target Audience: Russian 2 is suitable for those who have either completed Russian 1 or its equivalent and feel confident with their knowledge of basic Russian. It is relevant to those travelling to Russia to live and/or work or wishing to learn Russian for personal or business reasons, or for personal study.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this course students will have learned: * More advanced grammar * Specialised vocabulary and common idioms * How to improve your conversational skills * Strategies for reading Russian texts * Longhand writing * How to hold a telephone conversation * How to talk about careers and sport * Weather, holidays and festivals * How to find your way in Moscow * About transport and verbs of motion.
Course Format: This course comprises 24 hours of classroom interactive group learning made up of 2-hour sessions over 12 weeks. To reinforce your learning homework is encouraged. There is no formal assessment.
Required Materials: Required text: Colloquial Russian (Fleming S L and Kay S: Routledge 2007). This course covers chapters 6 to 10.
