Mastering the Year Ahead - Colin Cox did an excellent job of giving us suggestions for doing so at the monthly NZ Association of Development and Training (NZADT) networking evening held this past week.
The crux of Mastering the Year Ahead - “Meaning”.
Is what you do meaningful? Because if it is, if you find meaning in the work you do, then money and recognition become secondary. It’s not to say you don’t need money and recognition but the focus shifts as we move up Maslow’s pyramid towards meaning. I liked that he used Maslow’s theory of Self Actualisation especially since he has modernised or simplified the terminology to make it practical.
As training providers / HR / employers he wanted to challenge us to ask ourselves if our trainees or employees were being directed towards find meaning in what they do or were we simply focusing on the widgets.
In there lies the focus for the year and a challenge I am certainly going to take up.
