After browsing the books stores and libraries for some inspirtional reading material and looking at numerous biographies, autobiographies and new leadership trends to keep me busy during the rainy days of winter. I could not help but be distracted by the constant media attention of the Soccer World Cup 2010 being held in South Africa.
My interst was aroused by the All Whites who were given very little chance of making much impact especially as New Zealand is a nation that is well known for its Rugby. Before long I was scouring the internet and reading the daily newspapers to get to know as much as I could about this unknown team. I loved the anaolgy of the All Whites being likened to the Jamacian bobsled team in the NZ Hearld yesterday. It didn't take long after their first game and I along with the rest of the world was fascinated by this amazing story unfolding in front of me.
I was soon part of this wonderful journey, I started watching whole games of football and not just the highlights and I was captivated when they beat Italy. A true David and and Goliath story. I was so inspired that I was up at 2am this morning cheering for a team that I am now passionate about. For me it didn't matter if they won or lost, I loved the lessons I learn't, more than any leadership book would have taught me...
Well done the All Whites, we don't need to read books about leaders accross the oceans when we have heros in our own backyard. I look forward to using you as an example to my son who is football crazy and one day aspires to be just like you.
