What we can learn from across the ditch by Robyn Viljoen

Monday June 20, 2011

Having been a Learning and Development practitioner for more years than I can remember, I found the Australian Institute of Training and Development 2011 Conference in Melbourne hugely refreshing. I arrived home bubbling with excitement and ideas.

This conference had key note speakers that challenged every dimension of my L & D comfort zones. It inspired me to let go of past materials that I had clung to realising that some of them were from the B.G. (Before Google) era. I left with a new approach and felt excited about the opportunities before us.

I have shifted my paradigm to realising that “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear”. That “Teacher “ more often than not is an online learning intervention or a social networking conversation or link. The days of two day workshops are numbered as we move to the mobile learning world of 7 minutes ...is all I need to learn something new.

Here are two of the presentations that are available online for you to view. I hope this gives you some insight into the approach we need to start embracing if we want to be leading and not lagging.
