We as men have predominantly been living from our head space, disconnected from our hearts. Our head space is where we spend most of our working day, thinking, planning, analysing, rationalising and so on. These activities are important, but problems arise when we lead with those activities and ignore the promptings of our heart.

Our heart space is where we hold our values and ethics. When we make decisions and behavior choices from our heart space, we generate love, peace, harmony and happiness. In our heart lies the true essence of who we are.

Achieving this balance between head and heart can be the longest and hardest journey a man will ever make. It takes tremendous courage for men to make this shift. Mainstream society, via television, movies, the media and even our education system has shaped our thinking about how men should look, behave and think. That influence has made us focus outwardly on things such as money, power, fame and material possessions. These goals bring only temporary satisfaction. True fulfillment is found when leading your life from the heart with the support of your head. This journey from an outer to an inner focus ultimately leads to a more fulfilling and happy life.

The Head to Heart Mentoring Bootcamp s for men who want to:

* Get off the treadmill of materialism.
* Live a happier and more meaningful life.
* Have more awareness of who they really are.
* Make a greater contribution for the benefit of all.
* Unlock their wisdom and share that wisdom with others.

* Identify and align their core values with everything they do.
* Access their potential to experience a deep sense of fulfillment.
* Live more in the present moment and stop worrying about the future.
* Integrate the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of themselves.
I was born and grew up in Wellington. I initially worked with New Zealand Railways for two years as an apprentice draftsman. In 1980, I spent 6 months at the Royal New Zealand Police College completing the Police Recruit Training. During that training, I was deployed operationally in a riot squad for the springbok rugby tour. My first day of active duty saw me at Molesworth Street confronting hundreds of demonstrators in what was to become a defining moment in New Zealand protest history.

In my career with the Police, I progressed from a Constable on front-line duties to a Detective in Wellington involved in the investigation of all crime ranging from theft to Homicide. In 1990, I transferred to Tokoroa as the Detective Sergeant in charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). In 1992, I transferred to Kaikohe as the Senior Sergeant in charge. In 1995, I transferred to Auckland City as an Inspector on front-line duties. At the time, I was one of the youngest Commissioned Officers in the New Zealand Police.

After 3 years as an Inspector, I left the Police, as I was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. (Stress brought on by consistent exposure to traumatic deaths, violence, sexual abuse, domestic violence etc). After a year of therapy, I fully recovered.

I later worked at the New Zealand Serious Fraud Office as the Complaints Officer and as an Investigator dealing primarily with Corporate Fraud. I left the Office when my marriage of 19 years ended, and entered a period of intense personal development. My world had crumbled and I realised that there had to be more to life than just chasing money, material wealth, well paying jobs and having a fancy house. That journey was one of discovering who I really was. I finally grasped that having a flash car, a nice house or even a secure job wasn’t going to give me the fulfillment I wanted. I realised that I had been leading my life from my head, not in touch with my inner real self, what I call my heart space. My journey since then has been about bringing balance into my life, the balance between head and heart.

On the sporting front I played National League Basketball back in the late 70’s and 80’s. In 1979 my team, Wellington Centrals won the National Club Championships, todays equivalent of the National Basketball League (NBL). I was also a member of the Wellington Provincial Team that year winning the New Zealand Provincial Championship. I went on to play in the NBL. I was selected to trial for the NZ Team a number of years but didn’t manage to make the national side. As a 6’ 4” small forward I didn’t have the height to edge out some of the taller and equally talented trialists and I definitely wasn’t guard material. I’ve also coached football and basketball teams at school and secondary school level. I’m a qualified Football Referee although I have hung up my boots for the moment.

While an Inspector of Police I attended and graduated from the New Zealand Defence Force Command and Staff College. Although primarily for Military Officers of the rank of Major and above, equivalent ranks in organisations such as the NZ Police and NZ Customs can also attend.
I later attended and graduated from the New Zealand College of Fitness and went on to be a Personal Trainer.
