The aim of this two-day workshop is to build your skill and confidence to plan and manage one or more R&D projects.

This workshop is provided in partnership with Mark Loeffen & Associates Limited and addresses the leadership behaviour of Planning on our Leadership Competencies Framework.

This workshop provides practical techniques for planning and managing R&D projects because traditional project management techniques struggle in R&D. The first day focuses on the key phases of an R&D project and examines the deliverables from each phase. You are also shown common pitfalls and how these can be circumvented.

The second day allows you to apply your learning directly to your own projects and explores how to manage the additional issues that arise when an R&D practitioner must deal with multiple concurrent projects. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop on the second day.

Each workshop occurrence requires 20 participants in order to sustain the low fee. Once 20 participants have registered for an occurrence, we will confirm that it will proceed.

Key Client discount does not apply for this workshop.

Mark Loeffen, BE, has more than 35 years’ experience as a researcher and R&D project manager. He has led R&D teams, been an R&D General Manager, CEO of a Research Consortium and MD of an R&D consultancy business. His skills and experience in managing science-related projects have provided him with a unique and credible understanding of the challenges presented by science research and development projects.

Mark has developed a workshop that combines underlying principles with practical examples into an integrated programme that many researchers have benefitted from. He believes that learning should take place in a relaxed and friendly environment and that underlying principles should be taught first, before specifics, applications or tools are addressed. Participants therefore gain a thinking framework that can be readily remembered and applied over a wide spectrum in the workplace.
