A good piece of short fiction makes for an intense and powerful reading experience. In this 3-day workshop you'll examine some fine examples, and you'll undertake guided writing exercises to help you develop your own style and subjects.

Target Audience:
This course will appeal to anyone interested in creative writing, particularly the short fiction genre.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course students will have:

* Gained critical skills through examining short fiction examples.
* Developed their own writing style and subject matter.

Course Outline:
The workshop follows all stages of the writing process, from developing ideas to key points for publishing. Aspects of the craft, such as point of view, structure, dialogue and voice, are also investigated.

Course Format:
The programme comprises 16.5 hours of learning made up of 5.5-hour sessions over three consecutive Saturdays.

Morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Participants will need to supply their own lunch, which can be purchased at nearby food outlets or you are welcome to bring your own.

Susan Pearce is the author of Acts of Love (Victoria University Press, 2007) and has published short stories in various journals. She is a former teacher of the Short Fiction course at the International Institute of Modern Letters.
