Typography surrounds us. It’s one of the most-used tools in a graphic designer’s toolbox — a visual expression of our language.

At this seminar you’ll gain an insight into the world of typography. You’ll discover its origins and find out how typography speaks to us visually without us having to read the words!

What the seminar will cover

Discover the origins of terminology that you use every day
Learn how to identify different categories of typeface (for example, serif and sans serif)
Find out where typefaces come from and how each conveys different meanings
Hear the history of some popular typefaces
Get some tips and tricks about 'good' typographic practice and how to avoid 'bad' typography
About the presenter

Philippa Dawe is the Creative Director of Alexander Rose (www.alexanderrose.net), a design and branding agency. During her 20-year career, she has worked in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She works across all mediums of design, with brands such as Pimm's, Smirnoff, Renault, Herman Miller, Caffe L'affare, Trilogy, and Air New Zealand.
